New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Grant Recipient!

We are honored to have received a grant from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation to return to the Canary Islands, Spain for research. Johnette is a Louisiana Isleña, a descendant of the Canary Islands (circa 1778), and the grant will allow us to continue our research into her heritage, and in particular, the music of the Canary Islands and its connection to the music of Louisiana. We co-authored a book titled The Spanish Tinge, Louisiana Music Pioneers of Canary Islands Descent which is slated to be published by Ediciones Idea in the Canary Islands in Spanish.
